Monday, October 30th, Hot Ice LIVE presents a musical tribute to Soul/Funk Royalty with "Rick James vs. Michael Jackson vs. Prince." Join some of Atlanta's top musicians and vocalists as they pay homage to three of the most iconic figures in American music. While much has been made of the inner rifts between the inventor of Punk Funk, the King of Pop, and His Royal Badness, Hot Ice Live fuses the best of their top hits, b-sides, collaborations, and remixes with a live band led by music director Jon Roberts and a DJ opening set from DJ Salah Anase (House In The Park /Lovesexy).

On several occasions the career paths of these multi-talented artists collided--really just further driving their passions to push the limits of music. In 1980, Prince joined Rick James' "Fire It Up Tour," which fans famously renamed the "Battle of Funk" Tour--sparking the beginning of their so-called beef. Years later, Rick James would recount his interactions and options of "The Purple One" in his 2014 autobiography "Glow." In what can be considered one of the most iconic moments in music history, in 1983 both Michael Jackson and Prince spontaneously joined the Godfather of Soul James Brown on stage at the Beverly Theater for an impromptu tribute and an unplanned-battle performance. By all accounts, Michael Jackson and Rick James had mutual respect for one another--so much so that some DJs and music critics try to highlight striking similarities between songs like James' "Give It To Me Baby" released in 1981 and Jackson's super break-out hit "Thriller" released in 1982. As each artist continued to rise in stardom, the friendly rivalry continued between MJ and Prince. Industry mogul/record producer Quincy Jones often tells stories in his interviews about how Prince turned down a duet opportunity and video cameo on Michael Jackson's 1987 hit "Bad" for what can respectfully be just described as "creative differences."

Their careers were interwoven and their influence has impacted both fans and industry worldwide, forever. Join us the day before Halloween at The Winery where Super Freaks, PYTs, and Sexy MFs will gather for a celebration in some of the best in Black Music. (Costumes and fan gear optional)

Doors open at 6 p.m. with a DJ set from Salah Anase. Live music starts at 8 p.m. Hosted by Ken Rye and Lisa Lee Artistry. Food, drinks, great entertainment and art. Presented by Hot Ice Live, RollingOut, Fusicology and Real Chicks Rock.
